Northern Gateway Sports Park – Frequently Asked Questions

You canbook online for the following activities before your visit, allowing you to fast-track into your chosen activity, saving you time once you arrive at the venue:  

  • Activa Gym – Online Gym Inductions are required for new members   
  • Group Exercise Studios  
  • Badminton Courts - 
  • Main Cycle Track Session 
  • Pump Track Session 
  • Bookings can be made on the Website or through the Leisure World App.  
  • Changing Rooms for indoor sport activities are available
  • Outdoor toilet facilities available

Face Coverings 

  • Face coverings are now optional for our customers. 
  • For your safety we recommend that you do not wear a face covering during exercise. You will be able to leave your covering with your possessions during your activity, or in your locker if available.  
  • Please take disposable face coverings home with you and dispose of them responsibly.

What measures are you putting in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19)? 

• Social distancing floor stickers and signage. 
• Hand sanitiser stations throughout our sites, which you are encouraged to use before entry to facilities and during your visit. 
• Screens at reception/till points. 
• Enhanced cleaning regime. 
• NHS QR code posters for you to record your visit on the Covid19 app.

What do I need to do when I arrive at Colchester Northern Gateway Sports Park for my booked activity? 

You will need to bring your Leisure Card, fob, wristband or phone sticker to go through the door access control within the centre and to access our outside tracks. If you do not have thisplease go to our Welcome Zone Reception desk and you will be issued with a new card linked to your Leisure Card account.  

Why do I have to be a Leisure Card holder and book in advance? 

Our online booking system is not able to offer guest check-out, therefore, to book online for all available activities or via our Leisure World App for selected activities you do need to be a Leisure Card holder.  If you do not already have a Leisure Card account, it is free of charge and you can set one up here.  

Additionally, by asking customers to become Leisure Card holders we are gathering customer information that we can then provide to the NHS to assist with the test and trace system if required to do so.

  Which activities can I book online?  

You can book the following activities online. These are:  

  • Group Exercise Classes / Aerobics Classes  
  • Activa Gym 
  • Cycle Tracks including Pump Track – bike and helmet hire can be reserved by completion of a ‘Hire Request Form’ that will be linked in your Cycle track confirmation email.  72 hours minimum notice is required to guarantee availability of equipment. 
  • Badminton

You can book selected activities via our Leisure World app these are:

How do I book for the Cycle Tracks and Bike Hire? 

Bookings can be made online via our website.

You can download our app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. 

Select the option of ‘Open Track Session’ or ‘Pump Track Session’ and then the date and time slot you wish to book.  You will need to book a place for all persons in your family/group, i.e., 1 adult, 2 juniors, 1 under 3 years.  Once you have selected all the places you required you can follow the check-out process.   

Once you have made an online booking, a booking confirmation email will be sent to you with a link to your ‘Hire Request Form’ to reserve your bikes and helmets if required.  72 hours minimum notice applies to guarantee availability. 

(Please note: If you are a Lifestyles member your Cycle Track open session place will be free of charge and this will show as ‘zero’ at check-out, however, if others in your family/group are also Lifestyles members i.e., your children hold memberships these will be charged, and we will issue a refund when you visit.)  

We apologise, but unfortunately our current system does not recognise others in your party who hold Lifestyles memberships. Therefore, please book online and pay for the others in your party.  When you arrive, you will be able to go to the Welcome Zone reception desk or our Cycle Shop Reception where we will look up your booking and the other Lifestyles members in your group and issue a card refund, therefore, please bring the card used when you made the original booking with you. We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes and assure you that we are working on ways to improve this.  

Do I need to pay a deposit or provide ID for Bike and Helmet hire?  

You will be able to reserve your Bikes and Helmets for your party using the ‘Hire Request Form’ that will be linked to your Cycle track booking confirmation email. 

You will need to pay for hire at the point of collection.  We do not require hire deposits, however, hire is subject to you providing proof of ID.  We will therefore need you to bring the following forms of ID for us to look at to check your ID and that the address matches your Leisure Card account.  We will register that this check has been carried out your Leisure Card account which will last for a period of 6 months, therefore, you may need to provide ID twice a year if you are a regular user. 

Any one of the following combinations will need to be shown: 

  • British Photo Driving Licence 

Or 

  • Passport and in date* Utility Bill or Bank Statement (*no older than 3 months) 

Or 

  • Credit/Debit Card and in date* Utility Bill or Bank Statement (*no older than 3 months) 

I am a Lifestyles member, and a charge is showing online when booking the Cycle Track?

If you are a Lifestyles member your Cycle Track booking will be free of charge and this will show as ‘zero’ at check-out.

How do I book for a Gym Workout in Activa Gym? 

Online Gym Inductions are required for new members

How do I book a Group Fitness class/Aerobics session?

When booking online, select the option of Group Fitness and then select the class you wish to book.  You can also book a place for any additional adults attending with you.   

(Please note: if you are a Lifestyles member your workout will be free of charge and this will show as ‘zero’ at check-out, however, if other adults in your family/group are also Lifestyles members they will need to make a separate booking under their own ID in order that their place is also free of charge.)  

If you are attending with others, each person will need to make their own booking under their ID.  

How do I book a Badminton Court?

Badminton and Table Tennis bookings are per court Bookings can be made online for all available activities or via our Leisure World App for selected activities.

Can I attend as a spectator? 

Yes, we have space for spectators and a lovely Coffee Shop for you to use too!

I require the assistance of a carer what do I need to do? 

Carers are admitted free of charge to assist you with your personal needs and to accompany you during your activities if required. 

Please note:  Free of charge carers for the Activa Gym are there to give assistance only and not to have a work-out themselves.  If they wish to work-out they will need to book a paid slot.  

Will changing rooms and lockers be available? 

Our changing rooms and showers are open.  Lockers are available in both changing rooms and in communal areas.  

Will the Paddy & Scott’s Coffee Shop be open? 

Paddy & Scott’s at Colchester Northern Gateway Sports Park is now open.  

Monday to Friday 8am-8:00pm Saturday 9am – 7:00pm and Sunday 9am – 8:00pm  

 

Will you be accepting cash? 

To reduce contamination, we continue to ask that where possible you try not to bring cash, and should you wish to purchase items whilst on site where possible we will use contactless card payments.  

Booking a Birthday Parties and Private Hires 

All chidren’s activities and facilities areas are now fully open and available to book and hire. Please contact us via our online enquiry form to book. Alternatively, you can call us on 01206 282000.   

 What is a Gym Induction? 

Anyone who wishes to join the Activa Gym will be required to complete a Gym Induction which is completed online via a video, this can be done in club as well on tablet. 

I have an enquiry what do I do? 

In the first instance please email contact.leisureworld@colchester.gov.uk with your enquiry.  We will endeavour to deal with your enquiry remotely, however, should this not be possible we will arrange an appointment time with you for you to come to site and meet with a member of our team.   

What are the Car Parking arrangements?

The car park is free to use for our customers.  Customers will need to register their free parking stay using the iPads provided within our Leisure World Northern Gateway building.  Please see further details about our Car Park here. 

How can I cancel my membership?

Before cancelling your membership, have you considered freezing your membership? You can save paying the joining fee when you unfreeze your membership.

If you’d prefer to cancel your membership, you can do this by emailing here. You must give us 30 days notice of your next direct debit payment.
