Cycling At Colchester Sports Park

Colchester Sports Park has a 1-mile all-weather floodlit closed road cycle circuit, the largest in the East of England, we provide the ideal space for road cycling for enthusiasts of all abilities, with multiple individual circuits enabling novices and more experienced riders to enjoy it at the same time.

On your visit why not try our Pump Track where the bikes are pumped to generate momentum around the winding course. It’s great for improving upper body strength and for BMX riders wanting to up their skills when cornering, leaping and keeping pace up.

Want to boost your fitness on a bike? Then book in a session at our state-of-the-art indoor Velo Studio with a variety of incredible equipment offering virtual and instructor-led classes to get you building up your stamina.

Don’t forget, here at Colchester Sports Park, as a proud part of British Cycling’s GO-Ride, the public are free to use our Learn to Ride area*.

*Please note during coaching sessions and cycle events using the Cycle Track, the Learn to Ride area will be closed to the general public.

The Cycle Track

Get out on your bike safely in any weather conditions at Colchester Sports Park’s largest Cycle Track in Essex and East of England.

Our unique 1-mile floodlit closed road cycle circuit, one of the longest cycle tracks in the UK, is perfect for road cycling for people of any ability, with multiple individual circuits available meaning the track can be ridden by novices and cycling enthusiasts alike.

Cycle Track Prices:

  • Adult (16+), 60 minutes: £5.95
  • Junior, 60 minutes: £4.95

Please note that parental supervision is required for juniors.

The Pump Track

Build your strength and skills on two wheels on the Pump Track at Colchester Sports Park.

Pump track cycling is perfect for riders looking to improve their upper body strength, as the bikes are pumped to generate momentum around the swooping and bending course.

Pump Track Prices:

  • Adult (16+), 60 minutes: £5.50
  • Junior, 60 minutes: £4.50

GO-Ride Cycling Schools & Learn to Ride

Learning to ride a bike offers a freedom and joy that no one should miss out on.

That’s why here at Colchester Sport Park (CSP) we are delighted to be part of British Cycling’s GO-Ride and that our Learn to Ride area is free to use to the public!

Sign up to road cycling programmes with British Cycling’s GO-Ride and take advantage of the following services:

For adults – British Cycling’s Learn to Ride programme helps adults new to the sport of cycling to learn new skills.

For children – With a designated Learn to Ride area, children can learn to ride using one of our balance bikes. These bikes have no pedals to help teach the art of balance. Once a child is ready to transition from a balance to pedal bike, one of our qualified instructors will teach them how to pedal and break safely.

Coaching for school children – With staff and volunteers providing knowledge and practical experience, to help you learn British Cycling techniques essential for teaching school children.

*Please note during coaching sessions and cycle events using the Cycle Track, the Learn to Ride area will be closed to the general public.

Disability Cycling

Accessibility for all is a top priority here at Colchester Sports Park and we are delighted to be able to offer cycling sessions for people with disabilities.

With accessible cycles making cycling available by removing barriers, we can provide the opportunity to allow everyone to cycle independently, with their family or as part of a group.

Cycling Competitions

Colchester Sports Park now hosts a wide array of world cycling competitions and mass-participation events throughout the calendar.

Our 1-mile Cycle Track is perfect for local, regional and national events, co-ordinated with local clubs and British Cycling. Venues are available for hire.

Bike Hire

Don’t have your own bike? No problem, here at Colchester Sports Park we offer a variety of bikes for hire to make getting on two wheels affordable and accessible to all.

Bike Hire Prices:

  • Adult (16+), 60 minutes: £7.50
  • Junior, 60 minutes: £4.00

Balance Bike Hire Prices:

  • Junior, 60 minutes: £3.00

Strider Trainer (Balance) and Helmet, 60 minutes: £5.00
Strider Trainer Advanced (Pump) and Helmet, 60 minutes: £5.00

Helmet Hire, 60 minutes: £2.50

Please note the bike/helmet hirer will be asked to provide photo ID when hiring. We ask each customer for ID the first time they hire from us and then every 6 months going forward.
