Come along to our training sessions and gain the skills and experience to enable you to climb “Big Red” unsupervised.
During supervised sessions there will always be an instructor present to supervise, teach and assist climbers. Harnesses, helmets and belay devices are supplied free of charge.
Climbing shoes can be hired from reception and chalk balls can be purchased for an additional £3.50 each.
If the climber is a complete novice then it will be suggested that they attend a minimum of three sessions with us before the climber can climb unsupervised. The exact period will be determined by the progress made and when both the instructor and the participant both feel that they are competent in the skills required to climb safely.

Auto Belays are great piece of kit, it allows you to climb without the need of someone else at the other end of the rope. It means you can climb when you want and as often as you want. It’s a great tool for beginners experiencing climbing for the first time and also enables more advanced climbers to build up their stamina and endurance.

Lead Climbing Sessions
At Leisure World Tiptree
This course is aimed at those who wish to develop their indoor climbing capabilities. It is also the next step to becoming a competent outdoor climber. The course will cover all aspects of Lead Climbing and belaying, as well as introducing some more advanced movement techniques.
You will learn: Movement skills, Clipping extenders / Quick draws, Preparing the rope for lead climbing, Belay stance and anchoring, Lead belaying, Holding a fall / falling, Coiling the rope
Participants must be 16+ and need to be top roping French grade 5+ confidently on a regular basis. You also have to be a registered competent climber at Leisure World Tiptree who can belay a climber on the top rope without supervision. Courses run on either Friday evening or on a day of the weekend, depending on instructor availability and the customer demand. Please register your details and once we have enough people interested to run a course, everyone will be contacted to finalise the date and payment will then be required to guarantee your place.
